ElecComm Crews Are Restoring Electric Power in Long Island

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 07, 2012

As of yesterday, there were still over 200,000 still without power on Long Island as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

The people in the coastal communities of Long Island and Queens, NY were among the hardest hit by Sandy. Now they are suffering new blows because of the difficulty in getting electric power restored quickly.

With a largely above-ground power network exposed to the full fury of Sandy's fierce winds and 14-foot storm surge, more than 90% of LIPA's 1.1 million customers lost their power, the biggest impact on any area power company. The ElecComm underground crews have been deployed to Long Island to help restore power.

ElecComm's core business focus is on the installation, removal and maintenance of overhead and underground electric/communications distribution systems. For information, contact ElecComm.

Our team was dispatched at 3AM on Monday morning to respond to Unitil and were put to work on power restorations that afternoon. They are still working in New Hampshire to help restore power.

Upgrade Current Utility Lines

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, September 27, 2012

Northwest New Jersey is upgrading power lines. They will be upgrading the existing 230-kilovolt transmission line for about 45 miles, adding 500 kilovolts onto towers that would be as tall as 195 feet in some cases.

Older electric line infrastructure regularly needs to be updated to accommodate growing populations, new roads and buildings. Often overhead lines need to be buried, or additional lines need to be added.

Upgrades are often very unnecessary. Often this type of work needs to be done to prevent power outages. When power lines cannot bring electricity to individuals' homes because tree limbs bring down the lines to homes and business during storms, upgrades and repairs are needed.

If your town or city needs to upgrade current utility lines, contact ElecCom.
