Joseph Coupal - Thursday, March 15, 2012

ElecComm crews mobilized to the City of Boston to assist NStar with the restoration of power and have worked around the clock. There are still 4000 without power.

ElecComm responded to the NSTAR power outage with several crews and helped to restore power to the City of Boston. ElecComm crews ran 13,000 Volt lines along Stuart St. and spliced cable. They also ran cable in the Marriott downtown. ElecComm was ready and dispatched to various locations in the City of Boston.

BOSTON — About 4,000 customers remain without power a day and a half after a smoky electrical transformer fire in Boston's Back Bay area knocked out electricity to about 21,000.

NStar crews worked through the night into Thursday morning.

NStar said the goal is to get everyone back online by about noon Thursday.

The utility installed temporary cables and dozens of generators to bring back power until permanent repairs can be made, but the extensive work was taking longer than first expected.

There were still traffic restrictions, but no problems were reported. The Massachusetts Turnpike's Exit 22 ramps to Copley Square and Prudential Center were closed to allow for the electrical work.

All subway stations in the area reopened Wednesday afternoon.
