Awarded Overhead and Underground Communication Projects

TRC Solutions South Street Providence Rhode Island

ElecComm was awarded the fiber installation for the new South Street substation in Providence Rhode Island. This project is all underground construction with-in National Grid electric utility space. The crews installed 16000 feet of 1.25” inner-duct with-in existing 4-inch conduit in National Grid manholes. Crews then installed 16000’ of 48 count fiber optic cable in the new inner-duct and post installed 72 manholes with fire tape, fire block and tags. Fiber optic splicing was performed on both ends inside substation yards and 48 fibers got terminated to patch cords and tested bi-directionally.

  • Job highlights
  • Electric manhole entry
  • Electric manhole inspection
  • Pulling inner-duct and fiber optic cables
  • Post Installs
  • Fiber optic fusion splicing
  • OTDR final testing

105 West First Street South Boston:

  • Underground crews performed manhole surveys and rod and roped 42 sections of underground conduit in electric manholes. Smooth wall 1.25 inner-duct was installed in all 42 sections for a total footage of 9000 feet. Inner-duct was racked, fire taped and tagged per RCN and Eversource standards. Crews then pulled in an 864-single mode count fiber for a total of 11000 feet including slack storage coils and splice tails at both ends. All 864 fibers got mass fusion spliced at both ends and bi-directional tested at multiply wavelengths per customer spec's.

Everett to Chelsea Underground Station Fiber Install:

  • Crews performed manhole surveys and performed rod and rope in 59 manholes to proof a path. Smooth wall inner duct 1.25 inch was installed into 59 sections for a total footage of 20,000 feet from station yard to station house. Crews installed 24,000 feet of 48 count fiber AFL Mini-Span 535 in route leaving 100 foot slack coils in manholes ever 2000 feet for future use. All manholes got posted installed with fire tape, fire brick and tags per Eversource standards. 48 count fiber was butt spliced along route and terminated in the station patch panels per standards. Fiber was tested bi-direction at two wavelengths to test loss and continuity. Crews average 3000 feet per shift for installation.

Cambridge to Belmont Underground Station Fiber:

  • Crews performed manhole surveys and performed rod and rope in 51 manholes to proof a path. Smooth wall inner duct 1.25 inch was installed into 51 sections for a total footage of 10,000 feet from station house to demark manhole. Crews installed 14,000 feet of 48 count fiber AFL Mini-Span 535 in route leaving 100 foot slack coils in manholes ever 2000 feet for future use. All manholes got posted installed with fire tape, fire brick and tags per Eversource standards. 48 count fiber was butt spliced along route and terminated in the station patch panels and manholes per standards. All fiber was running OSP and ISP and installed to manufacture specs. Fiber was tested bi-direction at two wavelengths to test loss and continuity.

UPS Pole Sets:

Overhead crews set new 35 foot class 4 poles for UPS to supply a temporary feed to a truck loading station to handle Christmas shipments.  Crews worked with electrician and installed 500 feet of 1 AWG, 3 phase wire from building weather head out to new loading station.

  • 5-foot class 4 utility poles
  • 277 / 480-volt system 3 phase

Boston Light and Node Project:

Underground crews installed over 2000 feet of #4 AWG compact secondary wire from Eversource manholes to city light poles to supply cell phone and internet antennas.

  • Voltage 120 / 240 and 100 amp system
  • Splicing was performed with sweetheart aluminum bus connectors and H-tap connections in handholes

Netting Jobs:

Overhead crews installed utility poles and netting to protect areas around golf courses, pools, tennis courts and ball fields. Jobs included setting utility poles, running strand, and installing hundreds of feet of netting from 20 feet high to 60 feet high.

  • et utility poles from 35 feet up to 70 feet in height
  • Replacing netting and utility poles after storm damage
  • Install galvanized strand and hardware from ¼ inch to 5/16 in diameter
  • Courses include North Andover CC, Indian Ridge CC, Kerwood CC, Rockport CC and so many others.

Flood Lights Projects:

Crews performed installation of parking lot flood lights on wooden and steel poles for company employee parking areas.

  • LED lighting fixtures
  • Halogen lighting fixtures
  • Wood poles, steel poles
